TO START DANCING!
Denise Nuttall began her dancing career at the early age of fourteen, when she joined a dance team sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her instructor inspired her to set her sights high, which led her to audition for the Brigham Young University International Ballroom Dance Team. She secured a spot on the team, and quickly advanced from the bronze to the gold/touring team. In 1977, she traveled with the team to Blackpool, England for the Blackpool Dance Festival, which is a world dance competition.
Denise choreographed her first original ballroom dance in 1989 for the LDS Dance Festival held at the Portland Coliseum. She continued to choreograph dances until 2007, when she organized her first dance team under the name In Motion.
Denise choreographs, teaches, and costume designs for In Motion, a 40 member dance team that performs locally, and competes both locally and at the National Showdance Championship held in Idaho. Over the years, Denise’s In Motion team has earned numerous awards.
From 2011 to 2014, she took selected In Motion dancers to Hawaii for a week-long summer dance camp to share her love of dance with youth on the Big Island of Hawaii, with great success. Her local showcases, highlighting her competitive teams and those still in the making, are now sold-out performances.
Denise has choreographed dances such as swing, waltz, cha-cha, disco, Charleston, and many others. She is always waiting for inspiration to hit, and the next great dance to reveal itself in her mind. Denise’s love of dance and her ability to generate the full potential of her team members have brought In Motion to the forefront of the competitive dance arena wherever the team participates.
